Americans are constantly bombarded with advertisements claiming the
lowest rates on long distance and cellular service. Even after
reading all the fine print, it's often hard to know which plan is
best. Fortunately, there are a number of sites to help you find the
right plan for your calling habits.
Long Distance Plans
Visit the
Federal Communications
Commission Common Carrier Bureau Enforcement Division,
where you can check FCC "scores" and complaint statistics for phone
companies, learn about scams, or file a complaint.
10-10-What?
10-10PhoneRates.com provides the latest
news on rate wars and helpful charts to help you understand the 10-10 offers advertised on television and in direct mail.
Ratekeeper also provides easy-to-read
comparison charts for competing 10-10 companies within a state,
state-to-state and internationally.
Wireless Phone Service
Cellular plans can be harder to compare because service options
vary by region. Wow-com, or World of
Wireless Communications, is a site sponsored by the Cellular
Telecommunications Industry. It doesn't compare plans, but it does
allow you to enter your zip code and get a list of companies that
service your area.
The following site sells cellular phones, but can also help you select a
service plan:
- Point.com
Enter your zip code, calling habits and preferred spending limits and
you'll get a list of plans that match your needs.
